How much will you have when you’re ready to retire?
Few can answer this question definitively…including your financial planner.
Most are simply “hoping” they’ll have enough.

During the Great Economic Recession well planned and curated retirement plans were the wrong age at the wrong point in the economy. We took note as we watched those nearing the end of their labor years get sentenced to 5- 7 additional years in the workforce. We say sentenced because their plans were unexpectedly altered against their wishes. They worked, they planned and they saved but didn’t realize they lived on hopium.
Like most, we like to win, but unlike many, we don’t believe that must come at the loss of others.
We believe those preparing for retirement are wise to remember the hardknock lessons learned from the Great Economic Recession..
Today’s workforce must do more than comfort themselves or believe they are safe and protected because they have a 401k, a fragile government pension plan, or group retirement plan facing the same financial strains of social security.
As a former California teacher, I’m shocked by CalSTRS nonchalance over the more than 71 BILLION dollar shortfall:

California teachers aren’t alone with financial shortfalls and pension plans in general are being cut back significantly or eliminated altogether. Public servants who give a lifetime of love and labor are going to be hit the hardest during retirement.
